Small Business Saturday Social Media Post Ideas for 2026

Small Business Saturday is November 28, 2026. A four-post plan with 13 example posts for bakeries, salons, cafes, boutiques, bookshops and trades.

The short version

Small Business Saturday is 28 November 2026 in the US. Post four times: two weeks before (what you plan), the week before (open slots, a reminder), on the day (you are open, what is left) and the day after (thank people, say when you reopen). Give each post a detail.

Small Business Saturday is the one day a year when shopping at the little place down the street is the whole point, so it is the easiest day of the year to post for. Here is a plan for four posts around it, with 13 example posts from six kinds of business: a bakery, a salon, a boutique, a cafe, a bookshop and a remodeling crew. Every example below was written by posthell from the one-line note above it, then checked against that note.

When is Small Business Saturday in 2026?#

Small Business Saturday 2026 is on Saturday 28 November in the US, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The UK holds its own on Saturday 5 December.

Small Business Saturday is a yearly day for shopping at independent local businesses. American Express started the US day in 2010. It lands in the middle of the busiest shopping stretch of the year: Thanksgiving is Thursday 26 November, Black Friday is Friday 27 November and Cyber Monday is 30 November. Your customers' feeds will be full of national sales that week, and the one thing a chain cannot post is what is happening at your counter.

The UK campaign is run separately, and its site lists Small Business Saturday UK on 5 December 2026. If you are in the UK, use the same plan below and move every date one week later.

What should you post for Small Business Saturday?#

Post four times: two weeks before, the week before, on the day and the day after, each with one real detail people can act on.

When Dates (US, 2026) What to post Where it works best
Two weeks before 14 to 20 November What you are doing that day: hours, a special batch, a makers table Instagram, Facebook
The week before 21 to 25 November Open slots, a table going up, gift cards Facebook, Instagram
The day itself 28 November You are open, the first thing out, what is left by midday Instagram, Facebook, plus a photo Story
The day after 29 and 30 November Thank you, what sold, when you are open next Facebook, Instagram

The one-real-detail rule is what makes this work. "Support small this Saturday!" could come from any business in the country. "First cardamom buns came out at 5:40" could only come from one bakery, and it tells people when to get out of bed.

What do you post two weeks before?#

Say what you are doing on the day in one or two facts, like changed hours or a special batch, and include the date.

1. A bakery: say what is different that day#

People plan their Saturday route ahead, and changed hours are the most useful thing a bakery can tell them.

Photo: a full tray of what you are making extra of, shot from above.

The note: "small business saturday is nov 28. we're opening at 6 that day instead of 7, and baking a double batch of cardamom buns. normal hours otherwise"

The post posthell wrote:

Small Business Saturday is November 28, and we're opening at 6am instead of 7. Double batch of cardamom buns that day, so there'll actually be enough to go around.

Hollow Oak, Madison. See you early.

Best on: Instagram, Facebook

2. A boutique: show who else is on the shelf#

A makers table turns your shop into a small market for the day, and naming how local the makers are is the detail that sells it.

Photo: the empty window with the table set up, before anything goes on it.

The note: "for small business saturday nov 28 we're putting a makers table in the front window. candles, mugs and knit hats from 4 makers who all live within 20 minutes of the shop"

The post posthell wrote:

November 28th. Come by and meet the work.

Best on: Instagram, Facebook

3. A cafe: send people to your neighbor#

The day is about local businesses in general, so pointing people at the bakery that supplies you is generous and on topic. Tag the bakery when you post it.

Photo: the pastry case, full, first thing in the morning.

The note: "saturday the 28th is small business saturday. our pastries come from the bakery two blocks over and have since we opened. go see them too"

The post posthell wrote:

Small Business Saturday is the 28th, and we want to put a name to the pastries that have been on our counter since we opened: the bakery two blocks over. They make them, we brew the coffee, and both of us are here in Sacramento doing the same thing. Come see us, and then go see them too.

What do you post the week before?#

Remind people with something they can act on: open slots, a table going up on a named day, gift cards. Post it by Wednesday.

Thursday is Thanksgiving and Friday is Black Friday, so a reminder on Wednesday 25 November is the last one most people see before the weekend. Schedule it ahead in case Wednesday gets away from you.

4. A bookshop: give people a reason to come in#

A staff picks table with handwritten cards is the opposite of an online recommendation, which is exactly the point of the day.

Photo: one of the handwritten cards tucked into a book, close up.

The note: "staff picks table goes up wednesday the 25th, ready for small business saturday on the 28th. 12 books, each with a handwritten card from whoever picked it"

The post posthell wrote:

Staff picks table goes up Wednesday. Twelve books, each with a handwritten card from whoever chose it, just in time for Small Business Saturday on the 28th.

Come by and see what we've been reading. Thistle Lane Books, open every day 10 to 7.

Best on: Instagram, Facebook

5. A salon: fill the last two slots#

Two named times are easier to say yes to than "we have availability". Mention gift cards too, since holiday shopping starts that weekend.

Photo: an empty chair at the station, or the gift cards at the front desk.

The note: "saturday nov 28 is small business saturday and we're booked except 2 afternoon slots, 2pm and 4pm, cut or blowout. gift cards at the front desk, any amount"

The post posthell wrote:

Small Business Saturday (Nov 28) and we're almost full. Two spots left: 2pm and 4pm, cut or blowout.

If you've been putting off a trim before the holidays, now's the time. Book online or give us a call.

Gift cards are at the front desk too, any amount, if you're looking for something easy to give.

Best on: Facebook, Instagram

What do you post on the day itself?#

Post early that you are open, with the first real detail of the day, then once more around midday with what is left.

The morning post brings people in, so schedule it for the moment you open. A quick photo of the queue or the table as an Instagram or Facebook Story works well in between: a Story is one photo or video with no caption, and it is gone in a day.

6. A bakery: open now, first batch out#

The time the first batch came out is the most convincing thing a bakery can post on a Saturday morning.

Photo: the first tray, still on the rack.

The note: "open now, small business saturday. first cardamom buns came out at 5:40. we're here til 2"

The post posthell wrote:

7. A bookshop: one free thing at the counter#

Free gift wrap is small, real and easy to say in one line, and it gets holiday shoppers through the door.

Photo: a wrapped stack of books on the counter.

The note: "small business saturday today. free gift wrap at the counter all day. open 10 to 7"

The post posthell wrote:

Small Business Saturday at Thistle Lane Books. Free gift wrap at the counter all day, 10 to 7. If you've been putting off holiday shopping, today's a good day to come by.

Best on: Facebook, Instagram

8. A boutique: what is left at midday#

A count of what is left gives people a reason to come now rather than next week.

Photo: the makers table as it looks right now, gaps and all.

The note: "makers table is half gone already. still 6 knit hats and most of the candles. open til 6"

The post posthell wrote:

The makers table is already half gone. Still 6 knit hats left and most of the candles, if you've been thinking about it. We're open until 6 today.

9. A cafe: thank the queue#

A long line is good news, and saying what you did about it is better than pretending it did not happen.

Photo: the line out the door, from behind, without faces.

The note: "queue out the door at 9 this morning. we put a second person on the bar until 1. thanks for waiting"

The post posthell wrote:

queue out the door at 9 this morning. we put a second person on the bar to keep things moving, which helped once we got going. thanks for sticking around if you waited. we're open every day 6:30 to 3 if you want to beat the rush.

Best on: Instagram, Facebook

10. A remodeling crew: thank the businesses behind yours#

A trade with no storefront still belongs in the day. Thanking the suppliers you buy from shows a homeowner who else stands behind the work.

Photo: a stack of lumber or tile boxes on site, with the supplier's name visible.

The note: "small business saturday is for the people we buy from too. the lumber yard, the tile shop and the electrician we've worked with for 11 years. all local, all family run"

The post posthell wrote:

What do you post the day after?#

Thank people in one line, say what sold and when you are open next. The day after is when people check what they missed.

11. A bakery: sold out, back Tuesday#

A sold-out time tells people when to come next time, and the reopening day saves them a wasted trip.

Photo: the empty tray or the empty shelf.

The note: "cardamom buns sold out at 11:20 yesterday. thank you all. closed sunday and monday, back tuesday at 7"

The post posthell wrote:

cardamom buns were gone by 11:20 yesterday. thank you all.

back tuesday at 7 if you want one.

Best on: Facebook, Instagram

12. A bookshop: what is still on the table#

Three books left is a reason for anyone who missed Saturday to come in on Sunday.

Photo: the three books that are left, with their cards.

The note: "9 of the 12 staff picks sold yesterday. the other 3 are still on the table. new table goes up in december"

The post posthell wrote:

Nine of the 12 staff picks sold yesterday. Three left on the table if you want to see what the team's been reading before December brings a whole new set. We're open every day, 10 to 7.

Best on: Instagram, Facebook

13. A salon: gift cards and December slots#

The day after is the start of gift shopping, so say where the gift cards are and how many December Saturdays are left.

Photo: the front desk with the gift cards out.

The note: "thank you for saturday. gift cards are still at the front desk. december saturdays have 3 slots left"

The post posthell wrote:

thank you for saturday, it was a good one.

if you're still looking for a gift card, they're at the front desk in any amount. and december saturdays are almost gone, three slots left. book online or give us a call before those fill.

What did writing these examples teach me?#

Put the date in the note, and read every draft for things the note did not say. I hit both while writing this page.

The bookshop's first note said the staff picks table goes up Wednesday "for small business saturday", with no date. The draft announced that Small Business Saturday "is the 30th". With "wednesday the 25th" and "the 28th" in the note, every draft got the dates right. A writer, ours or a chatbot, cannot know a date you did not give it, so type it.

The remodeling crew's note about booking December estimates went through four drafts, and each one added something: "we book out", "four guys" for what the note called a four-person crew, "the calendar fills early", and an opening line ("No shop, no sidewalk sale") built on a pattern the writer is told to avoid. None of those drafts is on this page. posthell is built to write only from your note and your business details, and it still gets one wrong now and then, which is exactly why nothing it writes goes out until you approve it. If you are drafting with ChatGPT instead, these prompts include a fact check for this.

How many hashtags should you use on Small Business Saturday?#

On Instagram, five at most: #SmallBusinessSaturday, one for what you sell, one or two for your town, and one with your name.

Five is a hard limit now, not a style tip: Instagram limits captions on posts and Reels to five hashtags. For the bakery above, that could be #SmallBusinessSaturday #MadisonBakery #MadisonWI #CardamomBuns #HollowOakBakery. On Facebook, one or two tags is plenty. You can check a caption with the free hashtag counter.

Where to start#

Tonight, write the four notes: what you are doing on the 28th, the reminder, the "open now" line with your real opening time, and the thank-you with when you are open next. Schedule them for Saturday 14 November, Tuesday 24 November, the morning of the 28th and Sunday the 29th, and the day is planned before it starts.

For the rest of the year there are post ideas for bakeries, salons and coffee shops, and for weeks with nothing to announce, what to post when nothing is happening. If you would rather not write the four posts yourself, posthell turns each note into a post for each network and publishes it at the time you picked, once you approve it.

Frequently asked questions

When is Small Business Saturday 2026?

Saturday 28 November 2026 in the US, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The UK's Small Business Saturday is a separate campaign, held on Saturday 5 December 2026.

What should I post on Small Business Saturday?

On the day, post that you are open with one real detail, such as the time the first batch came out or what is on the makers table, then post again around midday with what is left. Before the day, say what you are doing; after it, thank people and say when you are open next.

How early should I start posting about Small Business Saturday?

About two weeks before, with one post saying what you are doing that day, then a reminder the week before. Get the reminder out by Wednesday, because Thursday is Thanksgiving and Friday is Black Friday.

What can a business without a shop post for Small Business Saturday?

Thank the local suppliers you buy from, or tell people when you are booking work for the new year. A post about the small businesses behind yours fits the day as well as a sale does.

Is there a tool that writes and schedules Small Business Saturday posts?

posthell turns a one-line note into a post for each network, schedules it for the time you pick, and publishes only after you approve it. It is from $12 a month, with a 7-day free trial on the monthly plans.
